The hypocalcaemic effect of intravenous phosphate administration.
نویسنده
چکیده
1. Sodium phosphate was infused intravenously over approximately 2+ h and produced a mean linear rise in plasma phosphorus levels of 9.1 mg/100 ml. Twentyone infusions were performed in twelve control subjects and thirty-eight were carried out in thirty-two patients with disorders of calcium and phosphorus metabolism. 2. The fall in plasma calcium under these conditions was related to: a. The initial height of plasma calcium. b. The rate of rise of plasma phosphorus. c. The initial level of plasma phosphorus and the theoretical renal phosphorus

In both cases simultaneous administration of other potentially hypocalcaemic treatment makes it more difficult to assess additional treatment with calcitonin. Nevertheless, in case 1 intravenous calcitonin appears to have had an immediate effect followed by 36 hours without a further fall in the calcium concentration until the addition of intramuscular calcitonin. In case 2 a previous episode o...
متن کاملThe effect of L-arginine and L-NAME on intravenous self-administration of morphine in rats
The involvement of nitric oxide (NO) in the reinforcing properties of opiate reward was studied by examining the effect of a NO precursor (L-arginine) and a NO synthase inhibitor (L-NAME) on the rate of intravenous self-administration of morphine. This experiment was investigated in male albino Sprague Dawley rats (300 ± 50 g). At doses of 5 and 10 mg/kg (i.p.), L-arginine decreased morphine ...

متن کاملEffect of single high dose infusions of aminohydroxypropylidene diphosphonate on hypercalcaemia caused by cancer.
Single intravenous infusions of 30 mg aminohydroxypropylidene diphosphonate were given to 16 patients who had malignant hypercalcaemia to assess host tolerance and the effect on serum calcium concentration. Ten of these patients also received intravenous rehydration or corticosteroids, or both. The serum calcium concentrations decreased significantly after treatment with aminohydroxypropylidene...
